25TH RECOGNITION LUNCHEON

Without fanfare, Heckman Bindery, Inc. reached 65 years of age in May 1996. Conversely, it was considered momentous when, on November 6, 1996, Heckman held its 25th annual employee recognition banquet.

Each fall for 25 years all employees with at least 10 years of continuous service have enjoyed a meal served by management employees followed by a program and presentation of awards. Recent retirees and employees reaching new five year milestones are given special recognition at each banquet.

151 employees with over 10 years continuous service were invited to the 1996 banquet. Together their length of service averaged 19.4 years. Additionally, three employees who retired during the year were honored. Thirty employees received service pins; Nine for 10 years, three for 15 years, eight for 20 years, one for 25 years, four for 30 years, one for 35 years and four for 40 years.

Long length of service by employees is one of Heckman Bindery’s greatest strengths. The experience and stability that results are invaluable.Return to Top

BAR CODES AND LABELS

Some libraries are placing labels (bar code, catalog order label, library ID label, mailing label, etc.) too close to the binding edge of volumes sent for binding. This creates a buildup that will not allow the text block to be clamped securely in our milling and adhesive binding machinery. This can damage the text block beyond repair and cause extensive damage to our equipment. Please help us prevent this damage from happening. Always place labels at least 3 1/4" away from the binding edge (spine) and attempt to stagger them to eliminate a bulk build up at any particular place. Also, when placing labels, please remember to allow enough room on the three outside edges for trimming if applicable.Return to Top

SHIPMENT MANIFEST

Please remember that when we pick up your material, the new Heckman Bindery Shipment Manifest should accompany your shipment. This manifest, along with box labels, will allow your route representative to identify cargo on board for regulatory concerns that arise almost daily.Return to Top
